Capitol Hill & Cheesman Park

Capitol Hill is defined by the large Victorian and Edwardian houses built during the gold and silver years of the late nineteenth century. Cheesman Park, just to the east, gives the area its green center: eighty acres of open lawn and carriage drives, listed on the National Register of Historic Places and crowned by a Neoclassical pavilion begun in 1908.

For many buyers this is one of the most walkable ways to own in central Denver, and a condominium is the usual way in.

The buildings

Three eras sit within a few blocks of each other: converted mansions, mid-century towers such as 1200 Vine Street (1963), and small modern buildings such as the Strada, the 34-unit building at 1100 Grant Street that opened in 2006.

HOA coverage, parking and storage vary widely from one building to the next, so comparing buildings is often the real work of buying here. Nancy’s current listing is at the Strada.

Around the neighborhood

Denver Botanic Gardens adjoins Cheesman Park on its east side. The Colorado State Capitol anchors the western edge of the area, and the shops and restaurants of Colfax Avenue run along its north.
